Kefalonia has numerous beaches filled with peddles or sand. Most of the beaches are organized but the island has some inaccessible, but all have the same wild beauty with variety of colors.
Ithaca also has several beaches with main feature the turquoise color of the sea but on the island there are no sandy beaches. One of the most picturesque and quiet beaches of the island is Sarakino, but of course there are many other beaches like St. Ioanis, Kioni, Frikes, Afales, Stavros, and Pisaetos. Finally on your way from Frikes to Kioni, you will find small bays where you can enjoy your swimming.
Myrtos is the most famous beach in Kefalonia.It is on the northwestern side of the island and 9 km away from the village Agia Efimia. The beach is famous worldwide, and has continuously blue flag awards- it is considered one of the most stunning beaches in the Mediterranean. It is surrounded by high cliffs and it has unique white sand. In August Myrtos hosts the “Cultural Summer”, with concerts of Greek and foreign singers.

In Lassi, near Argostoli ,there are two more cosmopolitan beaches: Makris Gialos and Platis Gialos, golden sand beaches with excellent organization. Another beach with sand is Avithos, near the airport and to the south are the beaches Trapezaki and Lourdas, great in extent with many amenities: water sports, restaurants and several shops. On the east we find Katelio, a small village with a beautiful beach which gives life to the few inhabitants during the summer. A few minutes away are the beaches Ratzakli, Kaminia and Munda. In Kaminia you will find the refuge of turtle Careta – Careta, quiet sandy beach with shallow waters ideal for children. Also, the beach of Skala is located at the southeastern edge of the island with a length of 3 km, sandy with several small peddles.
On the east side of the island are the beaches Poros and Antisamos. Antisamos is just a few minutes from the town Sami. It is considered to be a nice trail for hikers, with crystal clear waters and several trees that offer shade and relaxation. It became famous from the movie “The Captain Corelli’s Mandolin”.
North of Kefalonia we find the beaches: Dafnoudi, Foki, Doliha, Eblisi, which are located in a lush landscape of cypress trees and olive trees. Foki is a small sheltered bay with incredible water color with trees close to the sea. In addition under the rocks there are caves that create a small paradise. In the west we find Assos, St Jerusalem and Alaties. Enjoying your swim in the small picturesque seaside village overlooking the Venetian castle is something stunning (Assos).
In Lixouri 2 km from the city is the beach Lepeda, with brown colored sand and further south is the vast sea of Xi, with red sand and clear shallow waters. Atheras is a quiet beach located in the northern part of the peninsula of Paliki. Further west we find Petani and Platia Ammos.
